Bookkeeping and Payroll
Bookkeeping is difficult. Anyone that has owned a growing business will know this, but on the other hand, if you’re just starting out then naturally you might be leaning towards giving small business bookkeeping a go yourself. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it’s not until further down the line that business owners realise their time is much better spent on what they already do best.
A bookkeeper helps keep track of business finances, they monitor the inevitable overdue invoices, ensure every penny spent is allocated to the right category and they work in conjunction with the accountant. No more trying to catch up with a year’s worth of unfiled receipts!
We…
- Provide a fully qualified, professional double entry bookkeeping service
- Don’t need to meet with you in person or take up space in your office
- Work from our own premises so our overheads are low and so are our fees
- Can help clients based all over the country
- Offer unlimited free email support
Your idea and your skills are the reason you started your organisation in the first place, spend your time on the business areas you are passionate about, not the necessities you’re inexperienced with.
What does a bookkeeper do
Our job is to keep your finance tracking up to date, both to keep you feeling in control of your cash flow and to help your accountant do a quicker and more accurate job for you. Double entry bookkeeping simply means that there are always two sides to a transaction, ensuring everything is reconciled. To help you we need your receipts, your invoices, your income records and your travel expense information. There are a variety of ways to send your documents and receipts over to us:
- Via cloud storage access
- By photographing them and submitting via a bookkeeping app
- By traditional mail
- By scanning or photographing and emailing
- If you’re local to us in Chorley, we will arrange to pick them up from you
We can also assist with other financial management tasks such as payroll for small businesses, VAT returns and purchase/sales ledger control. View our service packages.
You can trust in us
We keep everything confidential and we keep your details safe. Your business finances shouldn’t be public knowledge, which is why we promise complete confidentiality.
Ihelm work flexibly and if your requirements don’t fit into one of our existing bookkeeping packages, we’ll create one for you.

When I started my business over ten years ago, I thought, as many of us do, that I could do everything and didn’t need to waste money on paying other people to take over certain tasks.
That was OK for a while. I was only working part-time and my income wasn’t much. Tax returns seemed fairly simple and I thought I was doing a good job.
However, fast forward to 2017, I decided to go full-time with my Pilates business, open a studio and equip it with some rather expensive apparatus. Suddenly my accounts and taxes became much more complicated. I would stare at the computer, trying to make sense of all the figures, trying to find the time to keep making entries in spreadsheets and having to read up on what I could claim, depreciation of assets etc. It was such a headache and took valuable time away from what I had started the business for in the first place.
Hiring Arianna to do my book-keeping was one of the smartest things I have done to help me stay sane, keep on top of the figures and free up really valuable time for me to focus on doing a great job teaching Pilates.
Arianna takes all the stress and headaches away from my accounting. I no longer need to read (and re-read, and re-read without understanding) all the HMRC regulations. I can clearly see how my business is doing, financially. I know where I am spending too much money for little return so I spend more wisely and effectively on advertising, marketing, training etc. Arianna has advised me on setting up savings accounts so that I can plan how to grow my business further. She has kept me up-to-date with changes in regulations and what it actually means for me personally, my business and my future plans in terms I can understand and apply to my business plan.
During this unprecedented time of struggle, Arianna has scheduled weekly calls with me to see how I am, assign me tasks to keep my business afloat and make sure I have applied for all the financial assistance that is available.
I cannot express just how much this has helped me to stay focused, calm and still feeling like I am moving forwards. I mean, is anyone else feeling like they should update their business plan at the moment? I didn’t. But then Arianna pointed out just how much I have adapted to running classes online and that I should certainly be looking to add that as an additional income stream for the future.
Arianna is extremely well informed, diligent and has the caring, personal touch that engenders trust and confidence. At the forefront of her philosophy is the financial and mental well-being of her clients and their businesses.
